IMAGINING PALLADIO: SITING AN UNBUILT VENETIAN PALAZZO
MIT Computation Design Lab — Palladio Digitale 2014
Advisors: Takehiko Nagakura, Terry Knight, Howard Burns, Daniel Tsai

This project first looked at two unbuilt palazzos in Palladio’s Four Books whose inclusion addresses the difference between idealized plan and actual site. By looking at the sparse drawings available for one the palazzos, the project attempted to contextualize it within the formal language of Palladio, the nuances of the site, and specifically within the larger context of the City (Venice).

On the techincal side, the investigation centered on how to communicate and represent the project between the scales of the city, the site, the plan and the detail. The elements of these scales came from different components presented in class: the city is Venice, the site are parcels within the city, the plan was found in Palladio’s book and the details were designed and captured through various methods during the field trip. Therefore, the project developed several work flows to coalesce these components into a whole.
